3 Ways To Get Your Own Lake Tahoe Christmas Tree
1. Get a Permit to Cut a Tree Down
Cutting down your own Christmas tree can be a real adventure. If you want to cut down your own tree, you’ll need to get a permit and head out to the Lake Tahoe Basin.
Permits are only $10, but they only accept cash, so don’t forget your wallet. They limit it to one per family or household. You can snag one starting November 6th at the Forest Supervisor’s office in South Lake Tahoe. They’re open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This year, they’re only allowing cutting in three specific areas. You can visit Fountain Place Road, Lower Barker Pass Road, or Baldwin Beach Road. They’ll give you maps when you buy your permit.
2. Visit Christmas Tree Farms to Choose and Cut a Tree
If braving the wilderness isn’t your thing, you’ll find some good tree farms near Lake Tahoe. The following are some of the top options:
- Roberts Christmas Tree Farm: Located in Pollock Pines, CA, you’ll find a great selection of Christmas trees here. They have white fir, Douglas fir, cedar, Scotch pine, and some silvertip.
- Snowy Peaks Farm: Head to Foresthill, CA, for this farm. They’re open from November 25th to December 22nd, offering beautiful red and white fir trees.
- Harris Family Farm: This one’s also in Pollock Pines, CA. They have a wide selection, but remember to make a reservation. They’re open for tree cutting from November 18th to December 24th.
3. Go Christmas Tree Shopping
If you’re short on time or prefer convenience, you can buy pre-cut trees in a variety of places. Try checking out Tahoe Tree Company for a nice selection of trees. Head to Welcome Home Shoppe, a unique shop that sells interesting and locally crafted decor.
